Example Course - Soccer

Below is a general outline for how our courses are structured. Modifications are made to suit target age groups, abilities (including that of the teacher) and of course specific requirements of the school.

Duration

Our most popular courses are two hours in duration, offering a succinct, yet informative, practical and resourceful approach to teaching one specific sport.

Alternatively our half day courses cover 2 sports and full days address 3 sports, often including an element of general games or rules and refereeing.

Bookings

Courses can be booked well in advance to suit an already busy timetable. Many schools find a rolling appointment of one course per term a good way to mirror the structure of their sports programme. This approach is popular as it gives teachers access to four PL sports courses a year, proactively encouraging them to improve their confidence and proficiency in PE teaching. Options are also there for more advanced drills, courses for younger or older students and refresher courses.

Location

Courses can be conducted at your school or off site at specific locations. Discounts are available to schools that host a course and encourage external teachers from surrounding schools to attend.

Content

Modifications to the course content can be made when required to specific requests, but generally all courses cover the following key areas:

e.g. SOCCER (Target age group 9-12 year olds)

1. Introduction:
Gauge pre-learning / experience in teaching soccer within the group.

2. Analysis of the group:
Specific skills, drills or rules that they would like to addressed.

3. Outlining of the Teachers In Sport KSA's (Key Skill Areas).

>> Rules
>> Dribbling and ball control
>> Passing
>> Shooting

(advanced courses contain goalkeeping, basic tactics, using your head etc)

Each individual Key Skill Area focuses on: Specific skills and drills to analyse and correct technique; Key teaching points to remember; Common mistakes; Class organisation; Methods of progression and of course games to reinforce positive play.

4. Modified competition, Questions and Summary
Games that reinforce all the skills taught, as well as ways to stop the ‘bees around the honey pot’ that is often seen in junior team ball sports.
